Nepal has announced the closure of all expeditions on Mount Everest for the remainder of this year’s climbing season due to the global outbreak of the Coronavirus.
This decision came shortly after the Chinese government declared that it would also be suspending all climbing expeditions on the Tibetan side of the mountain for 2020.
Effective immediately, all expeditions on both sides of Mount Everest have been halted, and climbing permits have been canceled.

For tourists planning to visit the Mount Everest Base Camp on the Tibetan side, travel permits have been suspended until further notice. We are hopeful that tourism to Mount Everest Base Camp will resume in the second half of the year, depending on when the COVID-19 situation is brought under control nationwide.
