Day 1: Xining 2270m
Our guide and driver will pick you up from train station or airport to your hotel and if time allows. visit the Tibet Medical Museum to see the largest thangka painting in the world. And also you will have chances to see the specimen of wildlifes on the Tibetan plateau.
Day 2: Xining – Qinghai Lake 3200m [180km] 3 hours
In the morning drive to Qinghai lake northern shore, where you will have chances to see the Przewalski’s Gazelle. The gazelle was named after Nikolai Przhevalsky, a Russian explorer who collected a specimen and brought it back to St. Petersburg in 1875. Until the early 20th century, Przewalski’s gazelle was widespread across the high plateaus of northwestern China and Inner Mongolia. However, it is now found only in a single small area around Qinghai Lake.
Day 3: Qinghai lake – Drekar Tredzong 3270m [190km] 3 hours
Drive to Drekar Tredzong, a Gelukpa monastery located in the back of a remote rocky mountain. Here you can see Blue sheep (Pseudois nayaur ) known in Tibetan as Na or Nawa. Blue sheep still can be encountered in many locations on the Plateau if one is high enough in the mountains. Usually they stay close to a rocky area where they can escape predators. Often their lower grazing grounds are the alpine pastures of yaks.
Day 4: Drekar Tredzong – Mt Amnye Machen 3800m [310km] 4 – 5 hours
In the morning drive to Mt Amnye Machen, the highest snow capped mountain in Amdo region of Tibet. Goa (antelope) named Tibetan Gazelle is found around Mt Amnye Machen and the Dongri Tsona lake located eastern side of the Amnye Machen. Goas are native to the Tibetan plateau, gathering in larger herds during migrations to higher summer pastures.
Day 5: Amnye Machen – Madoi – Twin Lakes – Madoi 4270m [320km] 6 hours
Drive to Madoi, the highest Tibetan town close to the source of Yellow river. Yellow river or Machu in Tibetan boasts an array of wildlife beginning of its source from Kunlun mountains. Goa, Tibetan Wild Ass. And some species of bird can be found along the yellow river to the twin lakes. Amount them, a large number of Tibetan wild ass can be found here. In Tibetan called Kiang. Kiangs have never been domesticated.
Day 6: Madoi – Yushu (Jyekundo) 3700m [350km] 6 – 7 hours
Drive across grassland and over mountains and visit Tibetan nomads and their yak-hair tent along the way. yekundo or Yushu is a mojor Tibetan town located in the northwest region of Kham. Jyekundo town is found along the tributary of the Drichu(Tongtian He), which contribute to upper reach of mighty Yangtse River(Changjiang). It is a town with a long tradition of trade and is as the site of the prestigious. Stay over night in Jyekundo.
Day 7: Jyekundo – Rongbo – Chumarlab 4100m [230km] 4 hours
Drive to Chumarleb via Rongbo black necked crane natural reserve, Rongbo Wetland is also an important stopover site for migrating black-necked cranes bound for other breeding sites in Qinghai and perhaps Gansu Province. Rongbo black necked crane national reserve is one of the area where the cranes take breeding during the summer months on the Tibetan plateau.
Day 8: Chumarlab – Budongquan 3900m [315km] 7 hours
Drive to Budongquan through the three river’s source natural reserve. From Chumarlab you will probably encounter most of the wildlife of Tibetan plateau including Wild Yaks. Tibetan sand fox and wolfs are also find in in this area of Tibet. Wild yaks consists of treeless uplands between 3,000 and 5,500 m (9,800 and 18,000 ft). Tibetan antelopes also find here as they are migrating from northern TAR to this region in August every year.
Day 9: Budongquan – Wild Yak Valley 2780m [280km] 5 hours
Drive to Wild yak valley near Yuzhu peak. Wild yak valley is an area where lot of wild yaks can be found early May or late september. Especially the near the Xiwangmu lake. Camp in the valley
Day 10: Explore Wild Yak Valley and then drive back to Golmud
We will spend whole day looking for wild yaks and photograph this amazing creature in the valley. We will start heading back to Golmud in the late afternoon, spend the night in Golmud.
Day 11: Golmud – Xining 2270m [780km] 8 hours
Drive back to Xining.
Day 12: Depart Xining
Our guide and driver will take you to the airport and help check in your flight.
