Tibetan Autonomous Region will be closed to all foreign tourists from September 1st. Although there is no official information at the moment, it will probably be reopen in 7 or 10 days.
This closure is for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding Tibetan Autonomous Region. All foreign tourists need to depart from Lhasa not later than August 31st.
Another update is that there will be Shoton Festival in Lhasa on August 14th. Tibet Tourism Bureau and other government offices will be taking off from August 14th to August 20th. This means that no Tibet Travel permits will be issued during this time. Those who’re planning to travel in Lhasa in the end of August need to book their tours earlier, so we could issue permits before August 14th.
