According to the weather bulletins issued by the Nepal Meteorological Department (NMD), heavy rainfall in several parts of the country from September 24 -27, 2026 is expected.
Due to the possibility of heavy rainfall, there is a risk of soil erosion, floods, landslides and debris flows, with inundationpossible in urban and Terai areas. Water levels may rise in major and minor rivers, streams and rivulets. Daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, as well as construction activities near river areas, roads and air transportation may also be affected.
Furthermore, the weather system may bring heavy snowfall in the mountainous regions of the country. Therefore, mountaineers and all concerned are requested to remain highly alert and take necessary precautions.
Travel and safety precautions
Travellers are advised to take the following precautions during the period of adverse weather:
• Travellers, trekkers, and individuals currently in high-altitude and mountainous areas are advised to return to safer locations and avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve.
• Remain alert and exercise particular caution when travelling near rivers and river basins to minimize flood risk.
• Stay informed about the status of roads, domestic and international flights, trekking routes and other transportation services throughout your trip.
• Avoid areas experiencing severe weather or those identified as being at high risk of flooding, landslides, flash floods, heavy snow or other weather-related hazards.
• Follow all safety instructions and official guidance issued by NDRRMA, NMD, local authorities, security agencies, tourism professionals, trekking operators and other relevant authorities.
• Travellers and tourism stakeholders are strongly encouraged to follow the latest weather forecasts, warnings, and official updates issued by the NDRRMA and NMD regarding rainfall, flooding, landslides, and other potential weather-related hazards.
