Day 1: Arrival in Kangding by flight from Chengdu [2560m]
Arrive in Kangding, the gateway to the Tibetan Kham region. Meet with your guide and rest at the hotel to acclimatize to the altitude. If time permits, explore the town center and visit the local market. In the evening, take a gentle walk around Kangding to get used to the elevation and enjoy views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 2: Kangding — Tagong — Ganzi [3390m]
Morning departure from Kangding. Drive through spectacular mountain scenery to Tagong Grasslands, where you’ll visit Tagong Monastery, an important Sakya school monastery founded in 641 CE. Continue to Ganzi (Garze), the heart of the Tibetan region of Kham. Upon arrival, visit Garze Monastery (Kandze Gompa), founded in 1642 and one of the key centers of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery houses important Buddhist artifacts and offers stunning views of the surrounding valleys. Overnight in Ganzi.

Day 3: Ganzi — Katok — Pelyul — Derge [3240m]
Morning departure from Ganzi. Visit two great monasteries of the Nyingma tradition:
Continue the drive through dramatic mountain landscapes to Dege. The journey offers spectacular views of the Tibetan plateau and traditional Kham architecture. Overnight in Derge.

Day 4: Exploring Dege [3200m]
Morning visit to the famous Dege Parkhang (Dege Printing House) — a traditional printing house where, since the 18th century up to the present, Tibetan books are printed using woodblock printing. The Parkhang preserves around 217,000 wooden printing blocks and is considered one of the most important repositories of Tibetan Buddhist literature.
In the afternoon, visit Dege Gonchen Monastery, founded in 1448 by Tangtong Gyalpo, the famous bridge-builder and tertön. The monastery belongs to the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism and preserves important relics and teachings. Overnight in Dege.
Day 5: Dege — Dzogchen Valley and Monastery [4200m]
Drive to Dzogchen Monastery — one of the six great monasteries of the Nyingma tradition, dramatically located among mountains, rivers, and pristine forests. The monastery is the seat of the Dzogchen lineage and a major center for the study of the Great Perfection teachings.
Tour of the monastery complex and introduction to its profound spiritual atmosphere. Meet with monks and learn about the daily life and practice at this remote spiritual center. Overnight at monastery guesthouse.

Day 6: Exploring Dzogchen Monastery and Surroundings [4200m] (monastery guesthouse)
A full day of exploration in the sacred Dzogchen valley. Visit hidden meditation caves near the monastery where great masters practiced in retreat. Observe monks engaged in philosophical debates at the Buddhist college (shedra). Participate in morning and evening prayers if desired.
Optional hiking to nearby hermitages and sacred sites in the valley. The pristine natural environment and powerful spiritual energy make this one of Tibet’s most inspiring locations. Learn about the Dzogchen (Great Perfection) teachings from resident masters. Overnight at monastery guesthouse.

Day 7: Dzogchen — Sershul — Yushu [3700m]
Early departure through some of the most scenic valleys in Kham, with views of snow-covered peaks and alpine meadows. Drive to Sershul Monastery — an important center of both Gelug and Nyingma traditions, home to around 500 monks. The monastery sits in a beautiful valley surrounded by prayer flag-adorned hills.
After visiting the monastery and performing a kora (ritual circumambulation), continue to Yushu (Jyekundo) — a culturally rich city and important trading center. Yushu is famous for its annual horse racing festival and traditional Kham culture. Overnight in Yushu.

Day 8: Exploring Yushu [3700m]
Morning visit to Kyegu Monastery (Jyeku Gompa), a prominent Sakya school monastery located on a hilltop overlooking the city. The monastery offers panoramic views of Yushu and the surrounding mountains.
Afternoon visit to the Princess Wencheng Temple (Wencheng Gongzhu Miao), associated with the Tang dynasty princess who married Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. The temple contains ancient rock carvings and murals depicting Buddhist deities.

Explore the rebuilt old town of Yushu and visit local workshops where traditional Tibetan crafts are made. If time permits, visit the nearby Mani Stone Piles — one of the largest collections of carved mani stones in Tibet. Evening at leisure to experience local Kham culture and cuisine.
