May 21, 2015 – Everest Office, Tibet Tourism Bureau
The Everest Office of the Tibet Tourism Bureau has announced that, in order to support earthquake relief efforts, Mt. Everest Base Camp will remain closed to tourists until the end of June. The exact reopening date is not yet confirmed, but it is expected to be sometime in early to mid-July.
This closure also applies to the road from Shigatse to Mt. Everest Base Camp as well as the road from Shigatse to the Nepal border, both of which will remain closed until further notice. We will continue to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information as soon as it becomes available.
Meanwhile, the road from Lhasa to Mt. Kailash and the Guge Kingdom, as well as the Mt. Kailash trek, are fully open for tourists. Our first budget group tour to Mt. Kailash this summer will begin in Lhasa on June 27th.
